When deciding between Shopify and Squarespace, a key question to ask is: what are you selling, if any? Are you focusing on physical products in high volumes, or do you offer services, memberships, or appointments? Maybe you’re doing a bit of everything?
In general, Shopify shines if you’re running a big online store with lots of physical products. Its eCommerce tools and reporting are top-notch for that. On the other hand, Squarespace is fantastic if you’re building a website to showcase content—think services, blogs, portfolios, or creative sites. Its design features and content management are super user-friendly, making it a great choice for visually-driven websites.
If you’re mainly looking to create a stunning site for showcasing images or content, a blog, and sell a few products on the side, Squarespace is likely your best bet. Just keep in mind that it’s most effective if you’re selling in a single currency and not dealing with complex tax rates. It’s particularly strong for service-based businesses, creative professionals like photographers, musicians, coaches, or authors.
However, if you need a robust online store with automatic tax calculations, detailed reporting, and extensive inventory management, Shopify will serve you better with its advanced e-commerce features and payment options. Shopify also has an extensive network of third party integrations, allowing you to connect your store workflow to advanced shipping and fulfillment platforms, bookkeeping services, wholesale discounting, loyalty programs, testimonial tools, and more.

Squarespace and Shopify are great because they provide modern templates and themes that are a great starting point and fully customizable. But here’s the real magic: as designers, we love getting into the nitty-gritty of design to make sure your site reflects your brand and projects trust and professionalism. This means we craft a website that’s uniquely yours, not a generic, out-of-the-box design. Both Squarespace and Shopify have user-friendly interfaces, enabling you to manage and grow your site with confidence.
-
Definitely! While Squarespace and Shopify are great for building your own site, working with a professional designer can make a world of difference. We’ll help you create a custom site that doesn’t feel like a DIY project—it’ll be polished, professional, and perfectly suited to your brand.
We’ve spent years helping businesses of all sizes bring their websites to life. We get what it takes to build a site that not only looks amazing but is also aligned with your business goals.
We’re constantly evolving with the latest platform updates and design aesthetics, ensuring your website feels fresh, unique, and ahead of the curve. Let us take care of the design while you focus on doing what you do best!

The cost of hiring a website designer really depends on the complexity and features you need. For a standard 5-7 page brochure site with custom design, a blog, and booking functionality, prices typically start around $3,500. However, if you’re looking for an e-commerce site or more advanced features, the price will be higher.
Our website projects usually start in the range of $3,000 $5,000 for new tailored sites, and can start at $7,000+ for more complex e-commerce sites, depending on the scope. Get in touch and we’ll be happy to provide a detailed quote!
-
The process usually takes 3-8 weeks, depending on the complexity and how quickly you provide feedback. Here’s the breakdown:
Discovery: Start by getting in touch. We'll arrange an intro call and you'll receive a brand questionnaire afterwards. I'll spend some time getting to know your business and the struggles you’re currently facing. We dig into your pain points, how I can help, and your goals with the new site.
Design: Once I have a good understanding of your business and if we feel like we’re a good fit for each other, we’ll outline the project scope and set clear deliverables. This phase is all about agreeing a clearly defined list of deliverables and making sure you understand why I’ve suggested the solutions I have in terms of the real-world effects they’ll have on your company.
Develop: This is when we get down to work, solving the problems identified in your business and improving your customer’s experience as we go. Although the majority of this work is ‘technical’, it’s often quite collaborative -- I’ll be asking you for feedback on designs and possibly user testing to ensure that we’re on the right track. Once complete, we can go live with your new website!
Deliver: What good is a website built on a flexible content management system if you don’t know how to keep its content fresh? A frequently updated website is key for good search engine performance so we’ll spend an hour or two where I show you how to manage simple updates and changes.

We can work with your existing brand guidelines or offer branding services on an ad hoc basis, such as a text-based logo, browser icon, font selection, and color palette.
